Hi! My names is James and I have lived with Major Depressive Disorder for 15 years now. But with ongoing therapy, the support of many and a lot of hard work, I am still here today, recovering.
I started this blog because I want other people who suffer from depression to know that they are not alone. By being visible and sharing my stories about how depression affected me and how I live with it, I hope to be of some help to others with mental illness. Depression affected much of my life, but I am not letting it defeat me and there's going to be more to my story - that's why I called this blog "The Second Act."
And while my writing will focus on living with depression, I will also be sharing my experiences as an HIV-positive gay man who is also a first-generation immigrant from Hong Kong. Some of these experiences relate to my depression, and others may not.
I hope you will enjoy my blog and find the content useful to you in some way. I want to
note, though, that I am not a medical or psychiatric professional. I may share ideas and experiences that I have found helpful (or not helpful), but I’m not a substitute for professional care.
I also want this blog to be as interactive as possible. That means I want to hear from you, whether you are commenting on a post or just have something to get off your chest. This is a space to exchange ideas and experiences, and to support others. So feel free to make use of the comment section. And if you'd like to be notified of a new post, just fill in your email address below and hit subscribe!
Thanks for reading!
